Ambitious grandson Alex and highly supportive partner Alice have opened their second cafe-restaurant, this time at Portchester, called the Crate, an idea they picked up in Indonesia. And all this is seemingly just the start.

As well as opening shops, exhibitions, carnivals and fetes, he presented prizes and awards galore and gave many talks. He also judged scores of beauty contests and crowned the winners.

The south of England ITV newsroom had plenty of fun and here four of the Day by Day programme reporters dressed as cops for a Christmas frolic. With Peter are Alistair Stewart (later to become ITN's News at Six main newscaster), presenter Chris Peacock and sports reporter David Bobin.


Peter also played football for an ITV team alongside colleagues Fred Dinenage and Tony Blackburn

Peter was appointed a director of Portsmouth Football Club and was soon promoted to vice chairman. His schemes to raise funds and tackle hooliganism attracted local and national publicity.
